Q+A with My Tiger My Timing

Hello all! I’m going in an hour so this is the last post for a while, but I’v found out there might be a chance of some posts during the week!

Well readers of Dirty Sexy Music, I’m proud to present the first Q+A on this blog and first band My Tiger My Timing were more than happy to take up the questions!

Here it is

Would you like to start by all introducing yourselves?

Hello, we are Anna (vox/keys), James (vox/keys/bass/guitar), Harrison (vox/bass/guitar) and Gary (vox/drums) and collectively we’re My Tiger My Timing from New Cross in south east London.

You seem like quite a new band, how did it all start?

We only started the band earlier this year so it is still pretty new, but we had all played together in varying configurations for a couple of years before in The Total Drop and Roaring Twenties, and we were running a little label called Snakes & Ladders for a while too. We thought it was time to unite our powers into one musical force.

Who are your major musical influences?

When we started we all agreed we wanted to make slightly weird experimental pop music with strong rhythms and catchy melodies. Some records which originally inspired our sound were the first album by Fun Boy Three, a collection called ‘Calling Out Of Context’ by Arthur Russell, ‘Remain in Light’ by Talking Heads and ‘Intro’ by Pulp. (and I like Iron Maiden but we couldn’t work that into the mix very well…–Anna)

Where can the masses find you playing?

We play most weeks in and around London – coming up we’ve got gigs at the Amersham in New Cross (30/08), Old Blue Last (31/08), Brighton Coalition (03/09), Metro (11/09), 333 (19/09) and Catch (27/09).

Reading from your myspace, all of the nice quotes, for quite a small number of views on your profile, you seem to have gathered quite a storm! Any plans regarding a single release?

Yeah, the MySpace was only set up in March I think but the response has been great, it’s really encouraging that people seem to be getting into the songs! We’re talking to labels at the moment about doing a single, probably a 7″ – things are moving quickly so we’re hoping it won’t be long because we can’t wait!

Anything exclusive you want to tell the readers of Dirty Sexy Music?

We’ve just demoed 7 new songs and we’re heading back to the studio soon to do full versions, one or two of which we hope to put up online in the coming weeks – we want to keep things fresh, keep working on our sound, keep people’s attention…

Who are your up and coming bands to look out for?

Bands we love at the moment are Post War Years, We Have Band, Plugs, Fig Leaves, The Severed Limb, i!AmYou, Master & Servant and Barringtone. And the artist Sarah Maple. This is the shape and sound of things to come… They’re all in our top friends list on MySpace (and in the real world too!).

Thanks a lot for your time and giving us an insight into the world of My Tiger My Timing, I wish you the best of luck with everything. Any last words?

Keep it dirty, keep it sexy x
